Combat Mechanics Guide
Mechanics describe the fundamental systems that determine how players function in The Forge. They define how you move, fight, defend, and manage stamina during encounters with Enemies.
Combat Fundamentals
Understanding The Forge's mechanics is essential for surviving encounters with enemies and bosses. Master these systems to maximize your effectiveness in battle.
From basic attacks to advanced parrying techniques, each mechanic plays a crucial role in your success as a Forger.
Core Combat Systems
Offense
Light and Heavy attacks form the foundation of combat. Choose the right attack for each situation.
Defense
Blocking reduces damage, while perfectly timed parries stun enemies and open them up for counters.
Stamina
Manage your stamina carefully - running out at the wrong time can leave you vulnerable.
Combat State
Being "in combat" affects stamina drain and certain abilities. Know when you're flagged.
Combat Mechanics Guide
Light Attacks
Fast M1 StrikesLight attacks are fast M1 strikes performed with Weapons. They form the basic foundation of most combat interactions and are ideal for safely poking enemies or finishing low-health targets.
Heavy Attacks
Powerful M1 StrikesHeavy attacks are slower but stronger M1 strikes performed with Weapons. They have longer wind-up times but deal noticeably higher damage and are best used when enemies are staggered, unaware, or locked in an animation.
Stamina
Resource ManagementPlayers have a limited pool of stamina that is consumed when dashing, sprinting during combat, and blocking. Managing stamina is crucial - running out at the wrong time can leave you unable to dodge or defend.
Combat
Combat State SystemPlayers enter combat after taking damage or attacking an enemy. While in combat, stamina drains faster when dashing or sprinting, and certain effects may only apply while you are flagged as "in combat".
Blocking & Parrying
Defensive TechniquesPlayers can block to lessen incoming damage. If the block is timed precisely as a hit lands, it becomes a parry, briefly stunning the enemy and opening them up for a punish or heavy counter-attack.
Combat Tips
- Mix Light and Heavy: Use light attacks for quick damage and heavy attacks when enemies are vulnerable
- Watch Your Stamina: Always keep an eye on your stamina bar - save enough for dodging or blocking
- Practice Parrying: Perfect parries are game-changers - practice timing enemy attacks
- Combat Awareness: Know when you're in combat state - it affects stamina drain and abilities
- Stagger Opportunities: Use heavy attacks when enemies are staggered for maximum damage
- Defensive Play: Don't be afraid to block - it's better than taking full damage
